In the autumn of 2016 there was a major international exhibition inside the recently-closed Reading Prison (latterly a Young Offenders Institution). Thousands upon thousands came – as much to see inside the prison itself, a major landmark in the middle of the town, as to see the artworks
I went twice. This work is a response to that experience, not just documenting cells and stairs and landings, but also trying to put myself in the shoes of the very many young men locked up – the noise, the confusion, the fear, the rage.
