In 2011 a brand new shopping centre opened in Newbury. It was four years in the building and has almost entirely obliterated what was there before: the only given is the land beneath.

These photographs are an elegaic witness to what was there before and to the process of building the new, so that they themselves are traces of the altered and the almost forgotten.
